Bettie James Stevens, age 90, died at Brookdale Assisted Living, Hattiesburg, MS on December 9 after a brief illness. She was born on October 2, 1925 in Sylvarena, MS the daughter of the late Luther Hines James and Sally Huff James. She was preceded in death by her eleven brothers and sisters and her husband of 55 years Tolbert Gordon Stevens. She graduated from the Gilfoy School of Nursing at the Old Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS.

She is survived by her 4 children, Mark Allen Stevens (Martha); Martha Stevens Mixon (John); Lindy Stevens Clement and Myra Stevens Myrick (Lewis); nine grandchildren, Jeanette Stevens, Anna Stevens Swann (Grady), Allen Mixon, Adelee Mixon, Nealie Clement Hale (Steven), Abby Clement, Bettie Myrick, Lew Myrick (Meghan) and Jimmy Myrick.

She was an excellent seamstress and cook, and was happiest taking care of her children, grandchildren and pets. She was a communicant of St. James' Episcopal Church. Pallbearers will be Lew Myrick, Jimmy Myrick, Alllen Mixon, Grady Swann, Steven Hale and David Hutchison.

The Reverends Victor Bircher and Lynn Tippet will lead the burial office graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1300 Church Street, Columbia, MS.
