Frances Moore Denny of Lexington died Monday, Nov. 7, 1988, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Extended Care Facility.

Miss Denny was born in Lexington when her father, the late Dr. George H. Denny, was associated with Washington and Lee University, first as a professor of Latin, then as acting president and then as president of the university. Her mother, Jane Strickler Denny, was the daughter of Dr. Givens B. Strickler, who was rector of the Washington and Lee board of trustees.

She moved with her family to Tuscaloosa, Ala., when her father became president of the University of Alabama.

Miss Denny graduated from the University of Alabama and taught English first in the public schools of Birmingham, Ala. and later at Jefferson High School in Roanoke.

In the mid 1950’s she moved to Lexington, where Dr. and Mrs. Denny had built a home following his retirement.

She was a member of the Blue Ridge Garden Club and the Garden Club of Virginia a member of the Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. O. Hunter McClung, Jr. of Lexington.
