Mrs. George H. Denny, widow of a former president of Washington and Lee and of the University of Alabama, died at her home here early Friday morning.
The former Miss Jane Strickler, she was born at the manse at Tinkling Springs, Augusta County, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Givens Brown Strickler.
She spent her girlhood in Atlanta, Ga., and was educated at Agnes Scott College.
She came here as a bride with Dr. Denny, who served as president of Washington and Lee from 1901 to 1911. Dr. Denny was president of the University of Alabama from 1911 to 1936. Upon his retirement, the Dennys returned here to live.
Mrs. Denny is survived by two daughters, Miss Frances Denny and Mrs. O. Hunter McClung, Jr., both of Lexington, and a sister, Miss Mary R. Strickler of Atlanta, Ga.
The funeral was conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at the grave in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery by Dr. J. J. Murray.
