The Golden Valley News, Beach, ND, Thurs, Sep 24, 1959, Page l, Col. l - "F. D. Spiegelberg Dies Suddenly Fri. - A heart conditon proved fatal to Ferd D. Spiegelberg of Beach on Friday, Sept. 18, 1959, at 9:30 a.m., as Mr. Spiegelberg sat in the Hammon Implement Co. in Beach, where he had stopped to visit for a few minutes. Funeral services were soleminized for him on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in Beach, with Rev. John Steinberg, Congregational pastor officiating.

"Mrs. Frances Beier, Mrs. Emma Neudeck and Mrs. Helen Hathaway provided special music accompanied by Walter Hubble at the piano. Pallbearers were Lisle Baker, Hugh Ross, Guy Curl, Charles Purvis, William Melvin and Stener Ekre. Interment was made in the Beach City Cemetery.

"He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Adeline Spiegelberg, Beach, three daughters, Mrs. Marie Langenes of Warren, Ariz., Mrs. Elizabeth Nelson, Spokane, Wn., (sic) and Mrs. Margaret Brengle, Beach, and 1 son, Harry, Beach, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Walter, Oshkosh, Wisc., Fred, of Omro, Wisc., Adolph, Larson, Wisc., 2 sisters, Mrs. Otto Musk, (sic) Freemont, Wisc., (sic) and Miss Lucille Spiegelberg, Larson, Wisc. 4 sisters and 2 brothers preceeded him in death.

"Ferdinand D. Spiegelberg was born in Winchester, Winnebago County, Wisc., on Jan. 25, 1881; the son of William and Marie Spiegelberg, both of German descent. He grew to manhood in the state of Wisconsin, and attended business college in that state, and then learned the carpenter trade beginning as an apprentice.

"He came to N. Dak. 51 years ago and also lived in Beach that length of time, where he was always very active in the life of the community, both as a builder, and as a sportsman. For many years Mr. Spiegelbergg (sic) was a carpenter-contractor there, and built many homes and business structures. The last, the new ... post office and Bijou Theatre bldg. in 1946. He retired after completion of this project.

"He was associated with E. E. Salzman, an architect, in the early days, the two combining their talents as architect and builder.

"Mr. Spiegelberg was an advocate of preserving our natural wildlife in this section of the state, and served as president of the Golden Valley Wildlife Club in Beach for several years, and all his adult life was an ??lastic outdoor sportsman.

"He was married to Miss Adeline Ketchum on Nov. 20, 1912, in Beach, and the children previously named were born to them. He was a member of Sunset .... No. 88, AF & AM.

"Mr. Spiegelberg, affectionately called Ferd by everyone, was ... of an enviable sense of humor, a characteristic which endeared him to all, and he was also deeply respected for his other accomplishments and unquestionable integrity."
