Nelma Jane Bell, born Perry, was the daughter of John Miles Perry (1884-1930) and Lucy Clay (1890-1927), and was born in Tishomingo, MS. She married William Bennett Bell on July 3, 1935 and with him had two children, William Jefferson "Jeff" Bell (1936-1999), and John Ellis "Buddy" Bell (1938-2004). They divorced on December 21, 1955 and she later married Gaines "Mac" McGehee. She lived for some time with him in a very old house in Vicksburg which was built in the 1850s near to the old courthouse. Later she lived next to her son Buddy for many years on McRaven Street in Jackson, MS. She would cook breakfast for her grandkids, their friends, and the neighborhood children and always had a spare dime or time for the unfortunate. A loving grandmother to all of her grandchildren, dedicated mother, and kind hearted woman, she died in 1991 at the age of seventy five years.
