Wesley “Wes” Laughery, 89, of Hillsboro, ND passed away Monday, February 10, 2020 in Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Wesley Charles Laughery was born October 27, 1930 in Grygla, MN the son of Charles and Rectina (McCoy) Laughery. He was raised and educated in Grygla. Upon the completion of his education, Wes worked as a lumberjack in northern Minnesota. Wesley enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 7, 1951 at Fargo, ND. He was honorably discharged from military service on June 19, 1952.

Wesley married Joyce Hill on July 2, 1952 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Wes and Joyce lived in Grand Forks until moving to Hillsboro. While living in Hillsboro, he was employed as a welder with Grandin Manufacturing until his retirement.

He enjoyed bowling, camping, playing cards and was especially fond of the outdoors and wildlife. He was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Hillsboro and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Following his retirement, he moved to Grand Forks and later returned to Hillsboro. Joyce preceded him in death on September 4, 2003.

He is survived by his son, Larry (Alicia) Laughery, Onamia, MN; his daughters, Connie (Ray) Weber, Hillsboro, ND, Cynthia Fankanel, Hillsboro, ND, Renee (James) Mueller, Fergus Falls, MN, Kathleen (Neal) Hansen, Hillsboro, ND, Lori (Mrs. Tom) Serna, Toppenish, WA; a brother, Jesse Laughery, Crookston, MN; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; a son, Fr. Robert Laughery; brothers, Leonard Schumaker and Harold Schumaker; a sister, Clara Hudson; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Laughery and a great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Tuesday.
Interment: In the spring at Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.

Military Honors: Accorded at the time of burial by the American Legion Post 157, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
