William Younger is a son of Jesse Temple Causlin and his first wife, LaCrecia "Tempey" Durham. He has often been mistaken for William McCauslin, son of Jesse's third wife, Nancy Ellen Bennett, who was a half brother but was actually born in the Salt Lake Valley in 1852 and lived until 1918.

William Younger was cared for by Jesse's second wife, Mary Jane Bennett because his mother had died at his birth in Carterville. (Family lore related that "Tempey" died with her third daughter, Mary, born about 1845, but that has been dis-proven.)
William did not have a mother for long, as Mary Jane died shortly after they left Carterville Settlement, along with her infant daughter, Sally.

Jesse McCauslin entered the Salt Lake Valley in the fall of 1851 with his surviving children from "Tempey" which included Louisa, born at Nauvoo 1841; Martha, born at Nauvoo 1842 and William Younger.

He had buried "Tempey" and Mary at Carterville, his second wife, Mary Jane Bennett and her infant daughter, Sally, on the bank of the Platte River in Iowa and then married 29 October 1851 to Nancy Ellen Bennett, sister of his 2nd wife.

She would not only be mother to Tempey's children, and also have nine of her own.
