Notes: Knight. Born at Spilsby. [died] at Madras. A cenotaph was erected by his family in St James, Spilsby.

The King was this day pleased to confer the honour of Knighthood on Willingham Franklin, Esq. on his appointment to be one of the Justices of the Supreme Court of Judicature at Madras. [Morning Post - Monday 22 April 1822, p.1]

By accounts from Madras, received by way of Bombay, it appears that the cholera morbus had been extremely fatal there, in the latter end of May and the beginning of June. Among the persons of note who had fallen it, were Edward Wood, Esq. Chief Secretary to the Government; the Hon. Sir Willingham Franklin; John Douglas White, Esq. senior member of the Medical Board; and Mr. Binny. By the 8th of June, which is the latest date from Madras, the virulence of the disorder had abated, no case having occurred in the preceding three days. [Bell's Weekly Messenger - Sunday 17 October 1824, p.1]
