Bonnie Pallesen Sorensen passed away peacefully at her home on May 20, 2009, another victim of breast cancer. Prior to her latest bout, she was a proud 15-year breast cancer survivor. She resided at 7485 East 400 South in Huntsville, Utah at the time of her death.

Bonnie was born in Manila, Utah on July 29, 1926, to Niels and Dora Pallesen. She was raised and educated in Manila. She moved to Ogden at the very young age of 16 and obtained work at Hill Field.

After World War II, she met her husband of 61 years, Leon J. Sorensen. They were married on September 9, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on April 11, 1963.

Bonnie and Leon moved to Huntsville in 1948, bought the town's general store, and together owned and operated -Leon's Market- as a family business for over 37 years. After their retirement, they traveled throughout the world.

Bonnie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an active member of the community. She stayed involved and served in numerous callings including Ogden Temple ordinance worker, management of the town's irrigation company, volunteer at the Family History Library, volunteer at the Ogden Valley Library and the Valley School.

She also did her part to keep Huntsville clean by picking up litter on her daily walks. She was always there to help anyone, anytime, and will be deeply missed by her grateful family and numerous friends.

Bonnie was a perfect mother, dedicated to her family in every way. She was named -Mother of the Year- by The Ogden-Weber Association of American Mothers in 2004. She loved to read and plant flowers in the yard but most of all she loved to host family get-togethers. She was a great cook.

Surviving are her five children, David L. Sorensen, Saratoga, CA; Douglas J. (Linda) Sorensen, Beaver, UT; Donald W. (Margo) Sorensen, Ogden, UT; LuAnn (Bill) Carver, Haslet, TX; and Richard L. (Regen) Sorensen also of Huntsville. She is also survived by one brother, Alan Pallesen; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leon, who died in September of 2007, her parents, one sister, and five brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in the Huntsville Second Ward Chapel, 277 South 7400 East, Huntsville. Friends may call on Monday, May 25, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, and prior to the services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Huntsville Second Ward Building.
