Peter O. Aune was born in Moose River Township of Marshall County on December 8, 1916, the son of Ole and Eli (Moslet) Aune. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended the former Old Ironsides country school. On July 31, 1943, he was united in marriage to Elsie Carlson. Peter served on the Moose River Township board for many years. He was a member of United Lutheran Church of Gatzke and served on the church council. Peter was proud to have helped build the church. He served on the Marshall/Beltrami Soil Conservation Dist. Board for 20 years. He was a member of the Gatzke Sportsman's Club, Modern Woodman of America, Middle River Community Club and Sons of Norway.

Peter enjoyed farming and felt privileged to have spent his entire life on the family farm homesteaded by his parents. It gave him joy knowing his farm today belongs to his son, Elroy. Peter loved the outdoors, was an avid snowmobiler, trapper, hunter, berry picker, fisherman, and enjoyed his summers at the cabin on Lake of the Woods. .Peter had a wonderful talent for inventing and improvising. He could fix most anything. He enjoyed old time dances, square dancing, and a square dance trip to Hawaii with Elsie. He also enjoyed a hot smear or whist game and cribbage. He enjoyed keeping in contact with his first cousins from Norway, making several trips to Norway to visit. Above all, Peter loved his family and we will miss his keen sense of humor. Peter will be remembered for his love of the land and his work ethic. Peter moved to the Manor in Middle River in December of 2004. In June of 2006 Peter moved to the Meadows Assisted Living Center in Karlstad. Peter entered the Karlstad Healthcare Center in March of 2009 and passed away there on Friday morning, June 12, 2009, at the age of 92 years, 6 months and 4 days.
