Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Salas Brothers-Moore Funeral Chapel for Howard L. Smith, a Ceres resident for 26 years, who died yesterday at a Modesto Hospital after a long illness. He was 55.
Smith was a native of Casey, Iowa. He moved to Ceres in 1936 and worked as a carpenter until about eight years ago when he purchased a cabin court in Ceres.
He was a World War II veteran, a member of the Ceres Odd Fellows Lodge and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harvest Post in Ceres.
Survivors include his widow, Renetta Smith, a son, Alan Smith, and his father, Sherman, all of Ceres.
Members of the Ceres Odd Fellows Lodge will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Ceres Cemetery.
