William Henry Walton was the son of Park Miles Walton I (b. 1831 – d.1879) and Frances Elizabeth Shepherd Walton (b. 1831 - d. 1870); the grandson of George Garland Walton (b. 1771- d. 1857) and Sarah Hardy Walton (b. 1792 – d. 1868). The burial place for his parents and grandparents is probably the Old Walton Cemetery in Panola County, Texas.
He is also the great grandson of Rev. Isaac Reed.
William's mother died giving birth to him in 1870. One month later, Park Miles Walton remarried bringing a stepmother into the home. When Park Miles Walton died nine years later, except for William, all the children of Frances Elizabeth Shepherd Walton left their step-mother's home to live with relatives.
(Children learn from their parents, perhaps this is why William felt it was OK to try to place all of his children for adoption after Icy Lee Stewart Walton died in 1916.)
William's step-mother raised him and his half-brother John R. Walton, and apparently lived with them until she passed away.
William's sister, Sarah Frances Walton Quinn told her family of the problems with her step-mother and of moving to relatives after the death of her father. Later she moved to Fort Worth and lived with their brother Parker Miles Walton until her marriage in 1885.
