Samuel McCALL served in Company B, 17th Regiment of Kansas Volunteer Infantry, He enlisted at Fort Leavenworth 13 July 1864 and was honorably discharged 16 Nov 1864.

Samuel McCALL died Tuesday evening from the effects of bowel trouble contracted in army service, complicated with rheumatism. He has been helpless for a long time and his only income a very meager U.S. pension. He was one of the early settlers of the Kaw Valley and well known by all old settlers. He leaves a widow, four sons and a daughter to mourn his departure. The funeral and burial services were held Wednesday afternoon. Thus one by one the old soldiers are passing away.
