Widow and One Son Among Survivors

Albert C. Chew, a well known B. & O. trainman residing in Garrett at Keyser and Franklin streets, died at Sacred Heart hospital Saturday morning at 10:30.

Mr. Chew retired in 1938 because of ill health. He submitted to an operation the 13th of last month and another was performed a week later. He was born Sept. 18. 1872. at Shelby, O., and had lived in Garrett since 1890.

He was employed as night clerk at the Ross house, now the New Garrett hotel, when H. N. Coffinberry was the manager. He became a locomotive fireman in 1891 and a brakeman in 1897, being promoted to conductor in 1913. At the time he retired he was working as a brakeman on the Capitol Limited.

Mr. Chew and Elizabeth Meiberger of Ohio were married in 1908. She survives, with one son, Thomas Chew of Arlington, Va., two grandchildren, one brother, Chas. C. Chew of 208 South Franklin street, Garrett, and one sister, Mrs. Eric Dilger of Bethesda, Md.

Mr. Chew was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Presbyterian church.

The rites were held at the H. A. Hinklin funeral home Monday afternoon at 1:30. The Rev. H. J. Jordan of the Garrett Presbyterian church officiated and burial was made in Calvary cemetery, Garrett.
