FORMER WARREN SOLDIER KILLED IN PHILIPPINES
PFC. GLENN RANUM, 21, GIVES LIFE ON LUZON ISLAND JANUARY 27
Another Marshall county Boy has paid the supreme sacrifice for liberty.
Word was received here Sunday, by Mr. & Mrs. Otto Ranum that their nephew, Pfc. Glenn A. Ranum, 21 years of age, son of Alfred Ranum of New Solum township, had been killed in action on Luzon in the Philippines Islands on January 27.
Glenn made his home with his uncle and aunt in Warren during much of his life, his mother passing away when he was an infant. He attended Warren public schools through the grades and then went to live with his father, returning here shortly before entering the service to be employed with is uncle at the Pioneer Land & Loan company elevators.
Glenn was born on November 18, 1923 in Wannaska, Roseau county. He entered the service on June 28, 1943 at Fort Snelling and received his training at Camp Roberts and Fort Old, California. He left for overseas duty in January 1944. He has three brothers serving in the armed forces overseas.
Memorial services will be held at the Viking Lutheran church in a short time.
