Mrs. Effie Mattingly Dowling, 78, died at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Lebanon at three o'clock Tuesday morning, January 27, 1970, where she had been under treatment several days after suffering a hip fracture at the Elliott Rest Home in this city. She was the widow of Edward Dowling. The remains rested at Hale & Polin Funeral Home here. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Ethel Dowling, this city, and Mrs. Ben Barlow of Frankfort; four sons, Walter Dowling of Bardstown; Edward and Robert Dowling, Campbellsville and Foster of Louisville; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Thad Hill, Louisville and a brother, Albertus Mattingly, Bardstown. The funeral Mass was tentatively set for 10 a.m. , Thursday, at St. Dominic Catholic Church.
