Aunt Ethel was a dear and truly wonderful person. Her acts of kindness extended well beyond her family and friends. In addition, she remained devoted to and cared for her parents William Edward Dowling and Mary Effie Mattingly Dowling until their deaths.
Ethel served her community of Washington County Kentucky for over 43 years as the Deputy Court Clerk. Nearly all of those years working for long-time Court Clerk Cecil McMillan. Upon his death she assumed his duties and then retired shortly thereafter, only to fight a courageous battle with cancer. She was a lifelong resident of Springfield however spent her last days at Christopher East Nursing Facility in Louisville and then joined her parents once again in Heaven and is buried beside them at St. Rose Cemetery.
Although she never married, she called my sisters, brothers, and myself "her kids". Until her death she was always with us, and growing up I felt as if I was in Springfield as much as my home in Frankfort. During vacations, she rode amusement park rides with excitement as if she were reliving her childhood all over again. To this day I still refer to her as my "Second Mom".

Her laugh was infectious, her love was enduring, and her memory will be everlasting.
