GOSHEN -- Paul W. Troyer, 101, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Greencroft Healthcare.

He was born in 1908 to Daniel S. and Sarah Jane (Hershberger) Troyer in Berlin, Ohio. He lived in Elkhart from 1944 to 1961, then moved to Goshen. On Oct. 11, 1931, in Middlebury, he married Luella Hooley. She died March 2, 1996.

Mr. Troyer worked as an auto mechanic and also for the U.S. Postal Service. He graduated from high school in Haven, Kan. He was a member of Waterford Mennonite Church and was a well-known woodworker, craftsman and musician.

He is survived by daughters Dorcas (John) Merkle of Ohio City, Ohio, and Eunice (Ivan) Chupp of Goshen; sons Delton (Bonnie) Troyer of Mishawaka, Paul I. (Edith) Troyer of Elkhart, David R. (Sydney) Troyer of Las Vegas, Nev., Walter (Linda) Troyer of Baltimore, Md., and Burl (Rhoda) Troyer of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by granddaughter Debi Miller and eight siblings.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at Waterford Mennonite Church, followed by the funeral service. Pastors Neil Amstutz and Tina Schlabach will officiate. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.
