After they were married, William and Flora went from Iowa back to Illinois for a time, and from Illinois they went to Western Kansas, settling in Clark County in 1884, and removing to Girard in 1888, where William taught school.
After Flora's death, William marriage again to a woman named Marie. They lived in Glendale, Maricopa County, Arizona. (Records indicate William returned to Girard before his death.)
Three children preceded William in death, one who died in infancy, and the other two, Paul Lucas McDonald died in 1920 and Eugene McDonald died in 1926.
William's death was due to 'General Peritonitis".
