"Services Held Friday for Mrs. Dena Christian

Funeral services for Mrs. Dena Christian were held Friday, July 18, in Salem Lutheran chruch with Pastor Everett Nelson officiating. A ladies' quartet composed of Mrs. Cyrus Christian, Mrs. Lester Olson, Mrs. Darrel Larson and Mrs. Harold Hovick, sang "The Old Rugged Cross." Otto J. Hanson sang "Den Store Hvide Flok." Mrs. Otto Hanson was the organist.

Interment was in the Roland cemetery. Pallbearers were Herman Johnson, Ervin Ose, Raymond Sande, Sherman Larson, Richard Eggland and Arnold Erickson.

A service for the immediate family was held in the John Christian home on Thursday evening, Pastor and Mrs. Nelson sang "In the Garden", and Otto Hanson sang "I KNow of a Sleep in Jesus' Name."

Helen Dena Christian, daughter of Christian and Bertha Tjernagel Logan was born in Hamilton County, Iowa, on May 27, 1873, and passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Mason City, Iowa, on July 14, 1958, at the age of 85 years.

She was married in 1908 [June 18, 1908]. to Jonas Christian. To this union were born four children, one daughter who died in infancy, and three sons, John, Julius and Earl. Mrs. Christian lived on a farm near Roland most of her life. She was a resident for few years at the Sunset Home in Story City, and for the past three years was a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in Mason City.

Mrs. Christian was preceded in death by her husband, Jonas; one infant daughter; a step-daughter, Cora (Mrs. Cyrus Thompson); two brothers, Henry and Knut; one sister, Gertrude (Mrs. H.M. Sparboe); two half-sisters, Guvine (Mrs. E.B. Christian) and Evelyn (Mrs. Carl Tesdall); and one half brother, Noel Logan.

She is survived by her three sons, John and Julius of Roland and Earl of Story City; two step-daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. John T. Johnson) of Roland, and Mamie (Mrs. Clarence Baldus) of Kenyon, Minn.; one sister, Carrie (Mrs. Peter Larson) of Livermore, Calif; two half-sisters, Clara (Mrs. Knut Mehus) of Roland, and Mary (Mrs. Martin Duea) of Duluth, Minn.; one half-brother, Palmer Logan of Story city; 22 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and several other relatives."
