From The Titusville Herald, Thurs., March 9, 1939:
"Local relatives of Mrs. Anna Eiseman Spiegel, 82, received word yesterday of her death, which occurred at her home in Toledo, O., on Tuesday, following a long illness.
"The deceased was the daughter of Christian and Elizabeth Eiseman and was born at Shippenville, Clarion county, July 17, 1857. She is the last of a family of thirteen children*.
"She was married to Joseph Spiegel about sixty years ago and he died eighteen years ago. They spent several years in Titusville and later resided in Warren for several years.
"It was while residing in Warren in June 1892, that they sent their two young sons, Walter and William, to Titusville to visit an aunt and uncle. While the two boys were here, the fire and flood of that time occurred and the two boys were burned to death or drowned.
"Later the family moved to Toledo, where they had resided for over forty years. There are several nieces and nephews in Titusville, and the deceased leaves four daughters, Mrs. Clarence Highland, Mrs. Benjamin Douglass, Mrs. Harry Wheelan and Miss Florence Spiegel, all of Toledo.
The body will arrive in Titusville at 9:05 a.m. Friday, and will be taken direct to St. Catharine’s cemetery for interment beside the husband."
*Note: Two obituaries on the same page of the newspaper included the sentence "She was the last of a family of thirteen children." While this may or may not be true of both people, it may also have been an editing mistake. Since I have no way of knowing whether this is true for Mrs. Spiegel, I leave the sentence in for the sake of family genealogists, and wanted to leave this explanatory note.
