Burial rites were held here this week for Mrs. Joshua Mohawk, a local resident who died Friday, Aug. 26 at Our Lady of Mercy hospital after being confined there for ten days.
Floretta Hester Rhodes was born April 15, 1875, the daughter of Riley and Frelove Rhodes, pioneer residents of Alexandria. She spent her childhood in Wisconsin, came to Minnesota and later moved back to Wisconsin where she met and married Josh Mohawk on Feb. 26, 1901, in Red Springs, Wis. They lived the last thirty-five years in Alexandria.
Five children were born to this union, all of whom survive. They are: Lewis, Floyd and Josh of Alexandria, Mrs. Loren Albeckson and Mrs. Gerald Alger of Cass Lake, Minn. Mr. Mohawk passed away in 1947. In addition to her children, she is survived by twenty-seven grandchildren, six brothers and sisters, William Rhodes of Iron Mountain, Mich.; Ed Rhodes; Lizzy Trefethern; Bessie Schultz and Sabina Lucas, all of Alexandria and Florence Parter of Campbell, Minn.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 29 at the Gospel Tabernacle at 2 p.m., Rev. Wm. A. Morken officiating. The pallbearers were Walter Meth, Grant Solberg, Walter Affeldt, Earl Bartholomew, Charles Waswo and George Manley. Interment was made in Geneva cemetery.
