He was the son of Thomas Flippin and Rhoda McAdoo and born in the area of east Tennessee, formerly part of North Carolina.

He married on 16 November 1816 in Warren Co., Kentucky to Elizabeth Baugh. In the attached photos sent by Debbie Coulter, Elizabeth (Baugh) Flippin mentioned their marriage location as Barren Co., Kentucky but they obtained their license in Warren Co. and were married by Samuel Watt who lived in Warren Co.

[from Arvetta Swift] Thomas H. Flippin was a Sergeant in the War of 1812 with the Kentucky Mounted Militia. There is a new chapter of the United States Daughters of 1812 in Bella Vista, Arkansas named after Thomas H. Flippin who was a patriot of the War of 1812.
