Gust Onger Laid To Rest At Strandquist
Services were held at the Gospel Tabernacle on Saturday, April 20th at 2:00 p.m. for Gust Onger who passed away at the Karlstad Hospital on Wednesday, April 17th after an illness of 22 days during which he suffered a series of paralytic stokes. Rev. J. A. Riveness officiated at the last rites and vocal music was rendered by Mrs. Clarence Lundstrom, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Pederson and Mr. and Mrs. Ingolf Ingebrigtsen.
Serving as pall bearers were Alfred and Otto Carlson, Carl Hjelle, Martin Myzkowski, William Hansen and Clarence Lundstrom.
Interment was made in the Bethesda Cemetery in Strandquist.
Gustave Adolph Onger was born June 29th, 1883 in Vesterbroten Nordmalings Runvik, Sweden and spent his early life in that community. In 1907, at the age of 24, he emigrated to the United States and settled near Clarkfield, Minnesota where he was married to Hilma C. Johnson of that community. In the fall of 1914, they came north and took a homestead just east of Strandquist which has been the family home ever since.
In 1923, Mrs. Onger passed away, leaving her husband with seven small children, a burden that was hard to bear. Gust took up the challenge and kept the children together in a good home, thereby winning the love and admiration of everyone in the community.
Mr. Onger was married for the second time in 1925 (*correct date is Oct 17, 1924) to Anna Carlson of Strandquist, and two children, Harold and Lorraine, were born of this union.
Left to mourn the departure of this faithful and kind husband and father are his wife, and the following children: Janet, Mrs. Oscar Carlson; Bertil; Mabel, Mrs. Adolph Johnson; Wallace, Hildur, Mrs. Lloyd Yoraway and brother, August Onger in Hoquiam, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, two daughters, Lorraine and Hilma, and one son, Ellsworth.
