Rites Held For J. Alfred Carlson Friday, April 16
J. Alfred Carlson, Strandquist, who had been in failing health for the last two years, died at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis Sunday afternoon, April 11 at the age of 68 years.
J. Alfred Carlson, the son of the late Carl and Anna Carlson, was born May 26, 1902 in Lincoln Township of Marshall County, Minnesota near Strandquist. He attended school and grew up in the Strandquist community and was united in marriage to Agnes Norbom at Clearbrook, Minnesota December 20, 1930. Following their marriage, the couple lived at Clearbrook until 1935 when they moved to their farm in Lincoln Township where they have since resided. Alfred was a member of the Strandquist School Board and of the Lincoln town board for several years. He was a member of the Karlstad Assembly of God church and served on the church board.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters: D. Carlson and Mrs. G. (A.) Chaffin; two brothers: Otto and Oscar, both of Strandquist; three grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for J. Alfred Carlson were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the Karlstad Assembly of God Church with Pastor Edward Linde officiating. Mrs. Edward Linde was the accompanist, and accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Thompson who sang "He the Pearly Gates Will Open" and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vagle who sang "The Eastern Gate."
Honorary casket bearers were: E. Lefrooth, C. Johnson, A. Strandquist, H. Carlson, H. Lind, T. Blackberg, R. Hendrickson and T. Haugen. Casket bearers were nephews: E., M., D., R., M. and G. Carlson.
Interment was in the Mission Cemetery, near Strandquist. The Collins Funeral Home of Karlstad had charge of funeral arrangements.
